Helen Meyer set to replace Aisling O'Neill on Meath County Council
Sinn Féin members in the Ashbourne Municipal District will meet later this week to confirm the selection of Helen Meyer to replace Aisling O'Neill on Meath County Council.
Ms. Meyer was the only candidate to receive the requisite nominations from her local cumann and from the Sinn Féin Comhairle Ceantair in Meath at close of nominations on Monday.
Originally from Finglas, Ms. Meyer lives in Ashbourne, having spent many years abroad managing major public and community services in Germany, New Zealand and the United States.
Since her return to Ireland, Ms. Meyer has been actively involved in community affairs in Ashbourne and is Chairperson of Tudor Grove Residents' Association and a busy member and Secretary of Ashbourne Tidy Towns. She has been Constituency Manager for Deputy Darren O'Rourke since his election to the Dáil, a role she will vacate on her promotion to Meath County Council.
Speaking in advance of the selection convention, which will be held in Ashbourne on Thursday evening, Ms. Meyer said,
"I am grateful to the members of the Thomas Ashe cumann and Meath Comhairle Ceantair for their support. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead and am sure the experience I have gained in recent years working with the local community in the Ashbourne Municipal District and with Deputy O'Rourke and Cllr. O'Neill will stand me in good stead.
"I intend to be a strong voice for the Ashbourne Municipal District and to continue the Sinn Féin call for investment in housing, public green space and roads and community infrastructure. I look forward to working with the local community and with council colleagues to make a positive contribution."
Deputy Darren O'Rourke said;
"Helen will be an excellent councillor for the Ashbourne Municipal District. I have had the pleasure of working with her since my election to the Dáil. She is a dedicated hard worker and has vast experience. I know she is ambitious for Ashbourne and the wider Municipal District and County, and will continue to fight for much-needed investment, infrastructure and services."
