Latest Cavan crash victim named

Crash occurred on the R178 at Carrickgorman, near Bailieborough.

The man who died following the latest fatal road traffic accident near Bailieborough has been named locally.

Piotr Aronik, of Boggan, Moynalty, Meath / Mullagh, Cavan, died following a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a parked truck that occurred at approximately 11:30am on Friday, May 5.

The crash occurred on the R178 at Carrickgorman, near Bailieborough.

Mr Aronik, aged in his 40's, was the driver and sole occupant of the car involved.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is the third fatality on Cavan roads in a little over a week, and the second in just 24 hours after Colm Tully from Cootehill died in crash that occurred on the N3, New Inns, Ballyjamesduff, on Thursday evening.

Mr Aronik, a truck driver, previously lived at Brookville, Mullagh, and is a native of Bielsko-Biala, Giewont, in Poland.

Following the crash a Forensic Collision Investigation was carried out at the scene on the R178 at Carrickgorman.

Gardaí are meanwhile appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R178 at Carrickgorman, Bailieborough between 11am and 12pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
