"Neurodiversity" poem by Charlotte Burke

To mark Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2023, we're featuring this beautiful poem written by 3rd class student of St Annes, Charlotte Burke, for her twin sister Katie. The poem was read by Charlotte over the school intercom as part of the initiative.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide campaign dedicated to challenging stereotypes and misconceptions about autism and learning disabilities. It also aims for global neurodiversity acceptance and inclusion.

St Annes have shown their love and support by providing an inclusive environment for all students. This week their students will attend Neurodiversity webinars and virtual events as the campaign runs this week from March 13th to March 19th.

Founded by their mother, Eva Burke, Neurodiversity Navan is a community group in partnership with Neurodiversity Ireland aiming to make Navan a Neurodiverse friendly and inclusive town. "Through this community, we hope to make the small changes to create a truly inclusive environment in Navan and make a difference to neurodivergent children and their families."

Neurodiversity by Charlotte Burke

It's not a curse to be neurodiverse,

Neurodiverse brains are different, not alike

Like different sets of shining lights

They're sometimes quiet may not want

to talk, but you should know they

share a similar walk

There's lots of differences in how

brains grow so please remember

be kind as you go

Our neurodivergent friends are

funny and interesting just like you

and want to be accepted as you would too

Together we can make the world a better place

There's room for us all there's plenty of space!

Remember it costs nothing to be kind

to people who have a different mind!
