Two Meath groups make Clean Coasts Ocean Hero 2022 Shortlist

Two Meath groups have been short listed for the Clean Coasts for the Ocean Hero Awards for their outstanding work and commitment to their coastlines and areas.

Liam Keane (from Bettystown Tidy Towns) was nominated in the Individual of the year category and Bettystown Tidy Towns themselves were nominated for the Local Action Award.

Each year  the Ocean Hero Awards honour the invaluable contribution Clean Coasts volunteers, groups and communities have made towards conserving Ireland's spectacular coastline.

2021 saw two Meath groups shortlisted in two different categories.

Gormanston Community Association Ltd was shortlisted in the Big Beach Clean Award category. Bettystown Tidy Towns was shortlisted in both the Big Beach Clean Award category and the Beach Clean Bubble Award category.

The awards, originally called the ‘Clean Coasts Merit Awards’, were conceived in 2006.

This year, Clean Coasts has chosen 7 dedicated categories with a total of 28 groups, organisations and individuals shortlisted for the title of Ocean Hero within each of the categories.

The 7 categories consist of:

Group of the Year Award

Individual of the Year Award

Youth of the Year Award

Beach Clean Award

Campaigner of the Year Award

Local Action Award

Special Achievement Award
