Irish Water working to restore normal water supply following power outage

Irish Water is working with Meath County Council to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers following an overnight power outage at Primatestown Pump Station, causing depleted water levels at Windmill Hill Reservoir.

Impacted customers in Ratoath, Kilbride, Fairyhouse Road, Skyrne, Painstown, Macetown and surrounding areas may be impacted by lower than normal water pressure and in some instances, particularly on higher ground, may experience intermittent water outages.

Electricity supply has returned and reservoir levels are recovering, however, it will take a number of hours for fully supply to be restored as the reservoir and water network refills.

While handwashing remains a priority, Irish Water is appealing to all customers to conserve water as the reservoirs refill.

Michael Cunniffe, Irish Water, said: “Irish Water is appealing to all customers to continue to conserve water as the reservoir refill. While handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to six litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.”
