Man dead after being hit by train near Gormanston station

A man in his 20s has died and another man was injured after they were hit by a train near Gormanston station last night.

Gardai say that shortly before 9.30pm, a train collided with two men. One of these men, aged in his 20s, received treatment but was later pronounced deceased.

His body has since been removed from the scene and taken to Navan mortuary.

A second man received treatment at the scene for his injuries.

Gardaí and emergency services attended an incident on the trainline in the Gormanstown area yesterday evening.

The line had been closed for some time but reopened early this morning and services are running as normal according to an Irish Rail spokesperson.
