Young and old combine to provide summer colour in Navan

Navan West Youth Service, a new service under the umbrella of Youth Work Ireland Meath, and Navan Men’s Shed, are collaborating over the summer with projects that will be beneficial to the Navan west area. The two groups came together recently for a four week project to build flower boxes, filled with colourful summer flowers, and donate them to organisations in the area.

An Employability Group from the Navan West Youth Service, with the age range 16-24, was established under the guidance of Navan West staff member Gordon Meighan. The group linked in with Navan Men’s Shed, with both groups based in Claremont Stadium.

"It was great to see Navan West Youth Service and Navan Men’s Shed coming together and working in unison, with the experience of the Men’s Shed members being passed on to the young people of Navan West being invaluable," Gordon Meighan explained.

“The two groups work very well together with great comradery."

A parent of a young person in the Employability Group said: "It’s been fantastic for him to get out and use his hands and mix with other people. He has found skills he thought he never had."

The flower boxes are being donated on behalf of Navan West Youth Service and Navan Men’s Shed to Navan Hospital, Millbury Nursing Home and the Family Resource Centre, Commons Road.

The two groups involved are looking forward to working with each other over the summer months and beyond.
