TAG Meath Autism support group looking forward to new base in Navan

The TAG Meath Autism Group which caters for teenagers and children with autism will be moving to a new premises at St Anne's Community Centre, Navan, after a short summer break.

The voluntary led group is hoping that the new bigger, more permanent premises will provide them with the opportunity to hold extra groups and drop-in mornings.

TAG held a fund-raising tea party in the Newgrange Hotel in Navan recently.

The event, which was open to the members and public also saw the launch of TAG's new website and a screening of a video made by the junior and teenage members with Shay Casserly about the organisation.

The room was buzzing with fun for the event, where tea and refreshments were served. There were arts and crafts, balloons, photo stations, a magician and puppet show.

TAG Meath Autism Group is a voluntary led youth club for teenagers and younger children with autism, which has been held until now on a Tuesday evening in Claremont Stadium, Navan.

It was set up by Ger and Niall Cullen, who have three teenage children with autism. TAG caters for 45 families spread over two groups, one group for children aged four years to 10 years and one group for teenagers aged 11 years and up. There are 30 to 40 children of various ages on their waiting list

Parents and guardians also stay for a cuppa and a chat and to offer support to each other. While TAG is based in Navan, children from all over Meath travel to attend.

The group’s ambition is to provide a safe welcoming space for its members to socialise and have fun, where there is no judgement and to promote the value of inclusivity in the broader community.

The Teen Group has an opportunity to gather and socialise in the sensory room, engage with arts and crafts, play games. They also participate in trips to the cinema, go-karting, bowling, and days out to the Adventure Centre.

The Junior Group participates in trips to soft play and family friendly farm outings. During group time they engage in sensory and floor play.

TAG sincerely thanks all those whose generousity and support made the recent tea party a success. A list of those who gave generously can be seen on their Facebook page.
