Half tonne of litter collected on World Ocean Day

At least half a tonne of litter was collected in Meath on World Ocean Day. More than 100 volunteers collected around 500kg of litter at the Meath clean-up events held both inland and by the coast, to prevent litter pollution at source to ensure it does not end up in the ocean.

Key events that took place included Gormanston Community Association's clean up which saw 10 bags of rubbish collected from the roads and the beach, as well as Slane National School and Bettystown Tidy Towns who did a classroom talk and beach trip.

Alpha Dive Sub Aqua Club hosted an event with Clean Coasts in Bettystown.

Environmental charity Clean Coasts joined forces with National Spring Clean.
