Tributes paid to Aaron (20) who died two days after traffic accident

Meath has been plunged into mourning following the death of Trim man Aaron Cantwell, two days following a traffic accident on the Trim Road in Navan.

Tributes have been pouring in for the popular 20 year old, who worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at Aura Leisurelink in Navan.

Aaron died yesterday at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda just two days after he was struck by a car in the early hours of Sunday morning on the Trim Road.

He walking on the R161 Trim Road when he was struck by a car at approximately 1.30am and was rushed to hospital in Drogheda.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was uninjured..

Aaron is survived by his dad, David, mum Naomi, brother Adam, extended family and many friends.

He will be reposing at Heffernans Funeral Home, High Street, Trim on Friday evening from 5pm to 7pm and his funeral will take place in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold's Cross, Dublin on Saturday at 2.30 pm. .

Aaron donated his organs to help save lives and loved ones have set up a GoFundMe gpage to honour his memory by donating to organ donor awareness.

The page says;” We have created this go fund me in response to those who have reached out and asked how you can help honor Aaron’s life in this heartbreaking time. This came as a shock to us all and any contributions will be given to Organ Donation Awareness .

“Those who knew Aaron understood just how loving and caring he was for everyone around him. He was a dedicated son, brother and friend and someone you could always talk to who loved to cheer everyone up .

“We are so devastated to have him taken from us at just 20 years old. It is difficult to express just how much he will be missed by his mother, father, brother, friends and everyone else who had the pleasure of knowing him. "Our hearts are truly broken and words can’t express the loss we are all feeling with Aaron gone.

“While he was here, Aaron dedicated his time to saving and teaching others as a lifeguard, he continues to save those in need even after death as an organ donor.”

One tribute said “Aaron is a beautiful soul and I wish him safe passage to his next great adventure.”

A local mother said “Aaron was my son's swimming teacher. He was so patient and kind with the children and always had a smile on his face.”

Another tribute said “He was a shining light that has gone out far too early and will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace.”

Another mourner said “I always enjoyed Aaron's welcoming smile and chats at the pool . He was always upbeat pleasant and friendly, a real pleasure to chat to .”
