84 Meath sports clubs to share €6.7m in Sports Capital Grants
A record amount of funding for sports clubs in Meath has been announced this morning by the Government with €6.7m being allocated across 84 different clubs.
Meath GAA has also seen a massive investment of €300,000 for the development of a new pitch at their training base in Dunganny.
In soccer the Meath and District League received a total of €150,000 for work on the floodlighting system and astro pitches.
Commenting on the allocation Fianna Fail Seanad spokesperson on Sport Senator Shane Cassells said the allocation marked an “unprecedented investment in sport in Meath”.
“Sport is in our blood in Meath and I’m delighted to see that so many clubs have been rewarded with record investment to allow them upgrade their facilities.
“This is all about looking after grassroots sport and making sure the next generation have proper facilities to play in.
“In October Minister for Sport Jack Chambers visited numerous sporting clubs in Meath with me, examining the applications that clubs had made. He was adamant that grass roots sport would be looked after.
“The money that is being allocated in Meath is going to allow clubs achieve really substantial improvements in their grounds for juvenile and adult members.”
Welcoming the funding, local TD and EU Minister Thomas Byrne said: “This is fantastic news for our communities the length and breadth of the Royal County – investment in our Sports clubs means real and meaningful investment in our children, young people and athletes.
“This funding will go a long way to meet the growing demands of our sports clubs and organisations. I want to sincerely congratulate all of the successful Meath clubs who will benefit from this huge of allocation of funding which will improve the facilities available to our communities – both young and old across county Meath.
Sinn Fein TD for Meath West Johnny Guirke alsowelcomed the news of Sports Capital funding for clubs and organisations across County Meath.
"The Minister's announcement today is what this beautiful County needed.
"Many clubs have struggled throughout the pandemic, and some had to put development plans on hold.
"This funding will bring our sports clubs forward again, and it’s rich rewards for all their hard work on and off the pitch over the last few years.
"I was very happy to work with many of the Clubs and organisations awarded funding with paperwork and I will be more than happy to work with others in future funding applications.
"I want to thank all the clubs in Meath West for their patience and for all those clubs who may have missed out this year, there is an appeals fund of €6 million set aside by Minister Catherine Martin."
