Official opening of Novelplast as 16 new jobs announced

Gibbstown based plastic recycling company, Novelplast, , has announced plans to create 16 new jobs in 2022, as it invests a further €2M in new production capacity.

The company said that the new investment would deliver substantial extra capacity to deliver innovative recycled solutions to the plastics industry in Ireland and its markets in UK and Europe.

Novelplast began operations in September 2019 from its base in Baile Ghib and currently employs 36 people on a full-time basis. It is the only plant of its type in Europe, focussed on finding recycling solutions for difficult to recycle PET plastics.

Speaking at the jobs announcement, CEO of Novelplast, Neil Skeffington, said: "We’re delighted to be announcing this new investment as the next step on our journey in Novelplast.

"The new roles will be in a range of departments including production, engineering, logistics, commercial and administration, bringing our total number of employees to 52.

"It is great to have a representative from Udaras na Gaeltachta and our two local government ministers here today, who have been a great assistance to us over the last few years."

Novelplast is also the industry partner for a ground-breaking new €2.9M project aimed at developing a novel chemical recycling technology called ‘PerPETual’ to recycle food trays and other PET materials in Ireland and abroad. The exciting project received €1.9M in funding through the governments Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund (DTIF).

Damien English TD, Minister for Business, Employment and Retail, congratulated Neil and his team in Baile Ghib on their announcement by saying:
