Ratoath College to hold 'superhero' fundraiser tomorrow for local boy battling Leukemia

Students and staff from Ratoath College are coming together tomorrow to support a special little local boy who has been receiving treatment in Children's Health Foundation Crumlin.

On Friday December 17th the Superhero TY students will be doing a 5km walk around Ratoath from 9am-10am to raise funds for local three year old boy Tommy Mannering who is battling Leukemia.

The walk will start at the college with over 100 students and staff dressed as superheroes. Members of the Ratoath community are also invited to join in and a garda escort will accompany the participants.

All funds raised online will go directly to Children's Health Foundation Crumlin formerly CMRF Crumlin. So far, over €3,000 have been raised for the cause.

Commenting on tomorrow's event, a spokesperson for the school said:

"This event is very close to the hearts of all in our school community and the wider Ratoath area.Three year old Tommy is the son of staff member, Roisin Mannering in our school. We are coming together as a school community to support Crumlin Children’s hospital and Tommy’s family.

"5th year Business students have been busy selling 'Candy Canes of Kindness' in school for €2. Two real life Superheroes will be in Supervalu from 10am-4pm selling their ‘Candy Canes of Kindness’ for Tommy on the 17th of December. All money raised from this school activity will go to Tommy’s Family."

Members of the community can also donate to Ratoath College now. A donation box is at the main office.

Donation boxes are also in the community; Supervalu, Centra, Ratoath Barbers and Spar.

Former students and members of the local band NOAH reached out and donated two concert tickets to their sold-out show in town along with signed vinyl records. This merchandise was raffled off in school raising more money for Tommy’s family. NOAH will be playing music in the village on the 17th of December to support Superheroes for Tommy.
