Istrati strikes as Navan side prove too strong for Chord

Under the lights at the MDL last night Parkvilla won the NEFL's 40th Anniversary Cup with Sergei Istratic scoring the only goal of the game.

The Navan side haven't won too much silverware in recent times but they claimed the prize with a composed performance on a cold and blustery evening to defeat Drogheda side Chord Celtic.

The goal arrived on 41 minutes when Jamie Blake played a neat ball behind the Chord defence.

Istrati timed his run perfectly and cleverly chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper who could do nothing to prevent the ball entering the net.

Both sides had decent chances but 'Villa had more of them with Eoghan Heavey and Blake among those to go close.

Chord went closest to finding the net when Brandon Sullivan had a shot rebound off the post late on.
