Saints serve sensational semi as Vincent's prevail

You have to admire the character and determination of the St Vincent's players following tonight's 0-16 to 2-9 JFC semi-final victory against St Ultan's at Ashbourne.

The Ultan's took the Ardcath side to extra-time in a thrilling encounter when Darren Kavanagh converted a penalty for an equalising goal with the last kick of the game - full-time 1-8 to 0-11.

It was only the third time that the teams were level over the hour and St Vincent's looked nailed on for victory with a 0-11 to 0-8 advantage on 60 minutes.

Then, a misdirected Ardcath kick-out went to Cian McBride of St Ultan's who was duly hauled down - the resultant penalty was converted.

In extra-time St Vincent's were ahead by 0-15 to 1-9 as the clock ticked towards full-time again and, yes, St Ultan's grabbed another goal - a fantastic finish by Tommy Buchanan - 0-15 to 2-9.

Robert Lynch of St Vincent's was sent on for the second-half of extra-time and with the teams tied he sent over a point that was ultimately the winning one.

St Vincent's will play either Dunsany or Carnaross in the final - but that semi-final scheduled for tomorrow evening in Cortown has been postponed.
