Chronicle Fuel Price Check reveals cost of diesel differs by as much as 18c a litre!

A comprehensive fuel price survey in Meath has revealed that the cost of diesel can vary by as much as 18 cent a litre while a litre of unleaded can have a differential of a whopping 16c.

The survey carried out at forecourts and filling stations across the county by the Meath Chronicle between 9am and 12pm today (Friday 15th) showed that the cheapest fuel we could find was at Campus Oil Dunshaughlin (159.9 for Unleaded / 149.9 for Diesel) while one of the most expensive places we found to fill the tank was in Kells with both Circle K outlets at Park Ri and McKeon's coming in at an eyewatering 175.9 a litre of unleaded and 167.9 a litre of diesel.

We endeavoured to cover as much of the county as possible and while we may have missed some areas, the early morning survey manage to take in over 55 stations from Oldcastle to Ashbourne and Mornington to Enfield.

We'll have more reaction to the survey over the weekend and in Tuesday's paper.

And what about Cavan, find out how our colleagues in the Anglo Celt got on with their Friday morning survey!

Following last Tuesday's budget, the prices at the pumps crept even higher. The carbon tax was increased by a further €7.50, bringing it up to €41 per tonne of carbon for some fuels.

The increase meant that the price of filling a 60-litre tank of petrol increased by €1.28. A 60-litre fill of diesel rose by €1.48.

There is a significant tax take on the price motorists pay for petrol and diesel. A survey by AA Ireland of Irish fuel prices surveyed in September 2021 showed the average retail price per litre of fuel as follows.

The average retail pump price for petrol was 155.9c/l; while for diesel it was 144.9c/l

The price before all relevant taxes were added was 61.951c/l and 63.9287c/l.
