People are once again reporting a surge in the number of scams texts and calls being received according to Meath Crime Prevention who said that fraudsters are using hyperlinks to bring people to fake websites. The added:

“We are continuing to receive reports from people who have fallen victim to text scams, in some cases substantial amounts of money has been lost.

“Most text scammers use a ‘hyperlink’ to bring their unsuspecting victims to a fake website, or to even import suspicious malware to their phones.

“Hyperlinks are the blue coded text underlined in blue in texts. never click on a hyperlink unless you are certain of its authenticity.

“Should you receive a text message from a delivery company, financial institution or other such business, contact them directly via a verified method rather than clicking on these links.
