Best of the weather today in the afternoon

Weather Update

Continuing predominantly dry throughout much of the week with light winds and temperatures around average for the time of year, in the high teens or low 20s, however wet weather looks set to return later in the weekend.

Mainly dry and cloudy this morning with just the chance of a little drizzle at times. Brighter conditions with some hazy sunny spells will develop through the day, the best of which will be across Connacht and Ulster. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, coolest in the east in light to moderate east to northeast breezes.

Tonight will be dry for the most part with a mix of cloud and clear spells and just a slight chance of some spotty drizzle, mostly in the east. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees generally, with east to northeast winds falling light or calm in places allowing mist and fog to develop once more.

Mostly cloudy to start on Wednesday with isolated patches of drizzle. Cloud cover will become more variable during the afternoon with some sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in mostly moderate easterly winds.

A largely clear and dry night on Wednesday. Some mist or fog patches will develop in light easterly winds. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees.

Thursday will be generally dry again, with just isolated patches of drizzle. There will be variable cloud cover, with some sunny spells at times, the best of which will be in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees, coolest along the east coast in light to occasionally moderate easterly breezes.

A dry night with long clear spells is forecast for Thursday, however pockets of fog will develop towards dawn in near calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees.

The forecast for Friday is a mix of cloud and clear spells with just the chance of some well scattered patches of light rain or drizzle mostly in Munster. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees in light southeast or variable breezes.

Looking ahead to the weekend and sunny spells and scattered showers are set to develop on Saturday morning, with cloud increasing from the southwest during the afternoon.

Current indications are that rain will follow from the southwest through the evening hours, turning heavy at times. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in moderate to occasionally fresh and blustery southeasterly winds.

Persistent and occasionally heavy rain will clear northern parts on Sunday morning with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers following from the south to all parts during by afternoon. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees in moderate to fresh southeasterly winds veering southerly and moderating after the rain clears.

Current indications for early next week are that it will remain unsettled with rain and blustery showers at times along with highs in the mid to high teens.
