Castletown NS in full Bloom

Cacti, sunflowers and geraniums were the order of the day in Castletown N.S as the students of the school held their first ‘Bloom’ festival recently. Organised by teacher, Mr Wayne Duff the festival encouraged children to plant, grow and tend to their plants and to showcase them in the school.

The school had noted that a number of children had taken a new found interest in keeping potted plants during the lockdown and it was important to harness this new found pastime. The Bloom festival also dovetailed with the school’s pursuit of the ‘green flag’ for biodiversity.

Principal Brien Kearns said: "Children across all classes created flower art, partook in a native plant scavenger hunt, played games that taught them about minding plants and watched videos on special and unique plants.

"The school also did lessons on the native Irish honey bee who are often spotted in the school garden. A great day of fun, learning and excitement was had by all. A new generation of ‘green fingered’ students in Castletown has been born. "
