Five teams could face IFC relegation by 2022

Meath GAA Co Board Fixtures secretary Damien Griffin told delegates at Monday night's digital format meeting that the 2023 IFC would have to comprise 16 teams.

"Our main priority at present is to have a championship and get last year's hurling finals played," he said

"Following a motion passed at congress we need to bring down the number of intermediate teams to 16 by the end of 2022.

"We have to look at the different options to relegate four teams in that time frame," he added.

There were 20 teams in the 2020 IFC.

To reduce it to 16 by the end of 2022 five teams will have to be relegated over the 2021 and 2022 championships.

Five will be required to facilitate the promotion of the 2022 JFC champions to the 2023 IFC.
