Third winner for Joey Dunne today

Wexford win for Dunshaughlin teenager Dunne

Dunshaughlin amateur jockey Joey Dunne was on the mark today at Wexford for his third career winner when he partnered Eyre Square to victory in the Island Mares Point-To-Point INH Flat Race.

The win rounded off a memorable week for Eyre Square's trainer Gavin Cromwell who enjoyed great success at Cheltenham.

Eyre Square was placed on her previous five starts, two point-to-points and three bumpers, and was sent off the 5/4 favourite and Dunne duly delivered the verdict.

The Dunshaughlin teenager recently turned 18 and mostly rides out for Gavin Cromwell, but gets one day a week in with Noel Meade also.

Dunne rode his first winner last November at Fairyhouse on the Cromwell-trained Delirious Love.

At Punchestown in Jaunary he added winner number two when he was smartly away when the starter dropped the flag on the Cromwell-trained You Say Nothing.

In that race Dunne was some 20 lengths or more up on the last horse to start after only a few strides, made all the running and won by 15 lengths. The margin today was half of that distance.
