You Say Nothing and Joey Dunne win at Punchestown

You Say Nothing Dunne the business!

A good start is half the battle or so they say, but it was the whole battle today at Punchestown where sharp-thinking Dunshaughlin amateur jockey Joey Dunne skated home on what was a very aptly-named winner - You Say Nothing - for trainer Gavin Cromwell.

Social media was buzzing in the aftermath of the race as the twitterai all had a fit over the performance of the starter.

Teenager Dunne, who rode his first winner last November at Fairyhouse on the Cromwell-trained Delirious Love, was smartly away when the starter dropped the flag.

The young jockey was some 20 lengths or more up on the last horse to start after only a few strides.

Dunne then made all the running and could have been quite lonely out in front he was so far ahead hardly a furlong after the start as the Cromwell-trained winner followed up on a success at Down Royal in December.

You couldn't make it up - in terms of what finished second - some 15 lengths behind an easing down You Say Nothing.

The runner up was Spare Brakes while in third place was Likeable Chancer.

“It was a great ride. He got a freebie out the gate, robbed a nice lead and got his fractions right,” said a delighted Gavin Cromwell in a post-race interview with irishracing.com..

THE STEWARDS

The Stewards reviewed the video and voice recording of the start in conjunction with Mr P.L. Malone IHRB Starter.

The Starter explained the different stages of the starting procedure.

Having considered all matters the Stewards were satisfied that a fair start had been effected.
