Drogheda teen pens song to voice anger at relocation of school

An angry teenager has recorded a song to voice her frustration at the controversial relocation of The Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School seven kilometers away on the other side of the town.

Devastated parents and students of the school have blasted proposals to relocate the school from its current site at Mill Road, Colpe to the grounds of St Olivers Community College, on the Rathmullen Road, Drogheda.

Thirteen year old Sienna Stanley, a first year student of Drogheda Educate Together was inspired to record the emotional song S.T.A.N (stop take action now) a version of the Eminem classic with lyrics by local rap artist Mick Lennon and guitar instrumental provided by James Kelly to express how furious both students and parents are at the move.

With a passion for singing, she decided to she wanted to do something to raise awareness and help the campaign to stop her school being relocated.

Her mum Debbie Stanley said:

“Sienna wanted to record the song to highlight the ridiculous decision to relocate the school to the complete opposite end of the town without so much as consulting parents or students about it.

“She is very upset at the prospect and has said she’d rather change schools all together than to move to that part of Drogheda.

“We really liked the whole ethos of the Educate Together Schools and we were delighted when the site on the Mill Road was sourced and with the footpaths put in especially she can walk to school from where we live in the Five Oaks on the Dublin Road, she won’t be able to walk to St Olivers.

“The whole thing has been handled terribly, the students deserve better.”
