Deadline approaching for Navan rail line submissions

People across Meath and in particular in the town of Navan are being encouraged to make their submissions supporting the construction of the Navan Rail line ahead of the close of public consultation this Friday (January 22nd).

This marks the deadline for people to make their submission to the National Transport Authority on the new transport strategy for the Greater Dublin Area.

A key part of this will be the Navan Rail Line.

Local Fianna Fáil Senator Shane Cassells has stated that this marks a huge opportunity to “once and for all” get the project on the books of capital infrastructure schemes.

“The new transport strategy simply has to include the Navan Rail and we should be thinking even broader and seek the electrification of the line rather than a diesel train service,” remarked Senator Cassells.

“I held a meeting with the NTA deputy chief executive prior to Christmas to go through the key points from a Navan and Meath perspective.

“Given the fact that the line will now be electrified out to Dunboyne I sought that there would be a costing conducted on continuing this to Navan as it is the way to go from an environmental point of view.

“We know the added societal, economic and environmental benefits from a new public transport infrastructure into the heart of the county and our capital town.”

The endorsement of the project by this strategy is considered key as it will inform where public expenditure on transport projects will go over the coming decade.
