Wet and windy conditions in the days ahead

A breezy day today with good sunny spells. Scattered showers, heavy at times, will affect the west of the province where it will be cloudier with just isolated showers elsewhere. The latest weather forecast from Met Éireann is giving for highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Tonight, scattered blustery showers will continue to affect the west. Mainly dry elsewhere with good clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees, coldest to the east with the clearest skies. Southerly winds will moderate during the night but staying fresh on western coasts.

Tuesday will be generally dry with sunny spells and just isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds. Cloud will push up from the south during the evening ahead of rain and strengthening winds.

Wet and windy weather expected Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Generally unsettled with rain and showers at times. Breezy too but holding relatively mild for the time of year.

A low pressure system will move up from the south over the country bringing strong and gusty winds with gales on southern and eastern coasts along with heavy rainfall throughout the country bringing a risk of coastal and surface flooding. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees will occur early in the night.

Wednesday will be wet and windy to begin. Strong and gusty mainly southerly winds will veer southwesterly during the afternoon and gradually easing. The rain will clear northeastwards with scattered showers feeding in from the Atlantic. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.

Wednesday night should be dry overnight for most but scattered showers will continue to feed in from the Atlantic, mainly affecting western and northwestern areas. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees will occur towards dawn. Some mist and fog patches will develop in light to moderate south to southwest breezes.

Thursday will bring a mix of sunny spells with scattered showers for the morning but rain and drizzle will feed in from the west later in the day. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate southerly winds, fresh at times. A humid night with temperatures barely decreasing with lows of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds, freshening later as a further spell of heavy rain moves in from the west later in the night.

Friday will see a wet start to the day as rain crosses the country eastwards, clearing to showers in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in mainly moderate southerly winds.

Looking ahead to the weekend and conditions will remain unsettled but becoming slightly cooler with highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees.
