Weather: Dull start to the week

A rather cloudy and dull start to the week there'll be outbreaks of rain at times this morning. There'll be sunny spells too, according to the latest weather forecast from Met Éireann. Temperatures will be between 11 and 13 degrees through the day with light to moderate southeast winds.

Tonight temperatures will fall to between 9 and 11 degrees with light variable winds. It will be rather cloudy dry with patches of drizzle and mist.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be mostly dry with sunny spells. Later in the afternoon, cloud will thicken in the west of the province as southerly winds freshen, bringing rain. Afternoon temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

On Tuesday night outbreaks of rain in the west will become heavy and persistent and spread eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees with strong southerly winds developing.

Wednesday will be a wet and windy day with a risk of spot flooding as rain turns heavy and persistent for a time. The strong southerly winds will ease later and temperatures will be between 11 and 13 degrees once again.

The rain will clear by Wednesday night and under clear skies temperatures will drop significantly in a much cooler airmass than recent days, down to between plus 1 and 3 degrees with a grass frost developing.

Thursday will be a dry day with sunny spells at first, it'll become cloudy later. A moderate southwest wind will fresh by Friday when another spell of heavy rain is expected.

The weather is expected to continue unsettled in to the weekend with southwest winds bringing rain at times.
