Weather: Good spells of sunshine promised today

Showers in eastern areas this morning, pushing further west and dying out by early afternoon. Dry through the afternoon and evening with good spells of sunshine, and feeling a little milder than recent days as winds ease, according to the latest weather forecast from Met Éireann. Highs of 13 or 14 degrees, in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

Scattered showers will redevelop in the east tonight. A cool, dry night further west with clear spells. Minimum temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, with fog patches forming as an easterly breeze falls off light.

Tomorrow (Thursday) will bring a cool start in the west with fog lingering in places, and a few showers in the east. Then a mainly dry day with a mix of good sunny spells and well scattered showers. Highs of 11 to 13 degrees, in a light easterly breeze.

The national outlook is for mostly dry weather with sunny spells and well scattered showers until Sunday, becoming unsettled into the early days of next week, with wet and windy weather.

A cool and mainly dry night is promised Thursday night with clear spells. Lows of 1 to 5 degrees with frost in places. Light easterly winds, becoming fresh on western coasts.

Another mostly dry day on Friday with sunny spells and just a few scattered showers. A little more cloud than previous days. Highs of 11 to 13 degrees, in a light to moderate easterly breeze, fresh to strong on southern and western coasts.

A weather front will approach the southwest coast on Friday night and Saturday, bringing the threat of some rain or drizzle to southern and southwestern coastal counties. Elsewhere, mostly dry with bright spells and scattered showers. Highs of 12 or 13 degrees in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

It is likely that cloud will increase through Sunday, with rain crossing the country Sunday night. Highs of 11 to 14 degrees, in light southerly winds.

Current indications for early next week are for unsettled weather with wet and windy conditions at times. Temperatures around normal for mid to late October, with highs of 11 to 14 degrees.
