Residents concern over Ballivor wind farm plan
PLANS by Bord na Móna\Powergen to develop a wind farm on bogs within the Ballivor Bog Group have sparked an angry reaction locally.
The proposals are for 26 turbines in Meath and Westmeath at Ballivor, Bracklin, Carranstown, Lisclogher and Lisclogher West bogs.
The Ballivor Wind Farm turbines will have an overall blade tip height of up to 200 metres above ground level and each turbine will be a minimum of 800m to the nearest house.
Following public consultation events held in Ballivor, Delvin and Raharney in March the project has been progressed to a draft wind turbine layout.
Bord na Mona says the development will create 100 to 120 jobs at peak construction and will support three to five long term, high quality technical jobs in operations and maintenance.
A group of concerned residents from the Raharney/Ballivor area who opposed to the development are coming together and will be holding meeting in coming weeks. They point out will be within 2km of 468 homes.
“The proposed development is utterly unacceptable and will be robustly and thoroughly opposed,” said a spokesperson.
