REPORTS

IFC

Trim.....2-14

Bective..0-10

Trim made sure there would be no slip up as they avenged last year's surprise loss to Bective with a comfortable victory to secure their IFC semi-final spot with an unbeaten record.

Bective adopted a defensive approach, but Trim were patient despite taking the lead from an Alan Douglas point inside 40 seconds.

It took Brendan Murphy's side another five minutes to find a second score with Aaron Lynch opening his account as Bective played 14 men behind the ball.

It would be another 11 minutes before Trim would find their way through for a third score with Mark Molloy on target, but as they kept the scoreboard ticking over it forced Bective to take some chances going forward and Trim took advantage.

Ciaran Joyce and Aaron Lynch added to the tally, but Bective did manage to clip over a coulple of breakaway scores to ensure the first quarter was close.

However, in the closing minutes of the half Trim found a way around Bective's defence with Joyce, Douglas and Eoin O'Connor on target to secure a 0-9 to 0-3 interval lead.

Bective opened the scoring after the break, but Trim never panicked and replied almost immediately with Conor Quigley lofting over before O'Connor fired the opening goal to effectively put the issue beyond doubt.

Bective abandoned their defensive plan and managed a sustained period of pressure which yielded three successive points, but with Lynch impressing and Molloy adding his second Trim assumed control again.

Douglas blasted a second goal as Trim advanced to the last four where they will face in-form Kilmainham.

Trim – B O'Callaghan; G Dwane, B Bolger, D Dowling; D Lynch, J Toher, K Nally; R Bourke, C Quigley (0-1); M Molloy (0-2), A Douglas (1-3), I Birmingham; E O'Connor (1-1), A Lynch (0-6), C Joyce (0-1). Subs - C O'Rourke, B Dowling, C Downes, P Brennan.

Ballinabrackey...3-20

Oldcastle.........0-4

Needing a win to put qualification for the IFC quarter-final beyond doubt Ballinabrackey swept to an emphatic victory over Oldcastle at Trim on Saturday evening.

Ballinabrackey discovered their shooting boots when kicking 3-16 in the win over Syddan and they managed even better against Oldcastle as they booked their place in the quarter-final.

With Duleek/Bellewstown managing a draw against Syddan, Ballinabrackey didn't have to worry about their scoring difference, but they didn't know what was happening in Castletown as they set about demolishing Oldcastle.

Ballinabrackey got off to the perfect start with Seamus Curry finishing the net in the opening minute and within minutes they had the ball in the net again with David Carroll converting a penalty after Sean Bannon was fouled.

Trailing by 0-0 to 2-1 after just eight minutes Oldcastle threw in the towel as Ballinabrackey added points from Barry Thompson, Curry, Damien Carroll and Danny Quinn to open up a 2-9 to 0-2 interval lead.

Ballinabrackey sustained that brilliant first-half display and continued where they left off after the restart with Damien Carroll, Quinn, Curry, Thompson and David Carroll stretching their tally to 2-16 before Oldcastle eventually managed their third point.

Sean Coffey added a third goal in the final quarter while substitute Dean McNamee and full-back Nicky Judge also got in on the scoring act to complete the rout and set-up a quarter-final clash with Clann na nGael as St Michael's await the winner in the semi-final.

Ballinabrackey - D Pluck; A O’Brien, N Judge (0-1), M Kearney; S Bannon, D Flynn, R Coffey; C O’Connor, S Coffey (1-0); D Quinn (0-5), Damien Carroll (0-2), D Carroll (1-2); S Kavanagh, S Curry (1-6), B Thompson (0-3). Subs - D McNamee (0-1), E Clancy, T Bannon, E Daly, C McNally.

Rathkenny....2-12

Drumbaragh...3-9

With plenty at stake, albeit at the wrong end of the table, Rathkenny and Drumbaragh served up an entertaining IFC round three encounter with the draw not enough to save Drumbaragh from the relegation play-offs.

This contest started in whirlwind fashion with a Keith Curtis goal boosting Rathkenny to a 1-2 to 0-2 lead by the first water break.

Drumbaragh closed to within a point when play resumed, but Will Gore responded with Rathkenny's second goal. However Drumbaragh battled back superbly with two goals in quick succession to take a 2-4 to 2-2 lead at the interval.

The second-half continued to ebb and flow. Drumbaragh stretched their lead to three points before successive scores from Jeaic Timmons, Curtis and Caolach Halligan restored parity with 23 minutes remaining.

Drumbaragh hit back with their third goal, but with Halligan in fine form hitting four points and Curtis and Timmons also in target Rathkenny battled back and salvaged a draw that was enough to confirm their safety while condemning Drumbaragh to the relegation play-offs.

There was never much between the sides with Harry Ryan and Mick Geraghty keeping Ballinlough in touch as they trailed 0-6 to 0-8 at the break. Dereck Muldoon produced a couple of fine saves to keep Ballinlough in the game and when Ryan blasted to the net it gave his side a one-point lead.

However, that advantage didn't last long as Longwood's Sean Coloe netted from a penalty and even though Peadar Byrne, Ronan McGuinness, Geraghty and Ryan managed late points Longwood held on.

St Pat's hit their first score after 10 minutes, but Moylagh kicked on to lead 0-8 to 0-3 at the break. The second-half was a more even affair and after St Patrick's were reduced to 14 men it was easy for Moylagh to hold on with Peter Fox also saving a penalty.

Slane............1-5

Knowing any sort of a victory over Slane would be good enough to secure their place in the JFC semi-finals St Vincent's survived a stern test at Donore on Friday.

The Ardcath men looked in control until Slane converted a penalty to close the gap to 1-1 to 0-5.

Ryan Hand (two) and Nigy Hand extended St Vincent's lead to 0-8 to 1-3 at the interval, but it was tight.

Both sides struggled after the resumption, but once Eoghan Corry scrambled a late goal it was enough to get St Vincent's over the line.

Soon after the start ogf the second-half Dunsany fired home two more goals, one from another Fox penalty to open up a nine-point lead.

Kevin Tiernan scored Clann na nGael's goal in that spell and when Doyle bagged his second goal it settled the Athboy/Rathcairn side.
