Help Derek make a Better Life for Livie

Ballinlough's Derek Lynch is taking part in a fundraiser with a difference in support of the Better Life for Livie campaign.

On Saturday 11th July Derek will visit every club ground in Meath in 24 hours and kick a point or solo outside the ground while raising funds for little Livie Mulhern.

Livie, who lives in Balrath, has been diagnosed with SMA, the same condition as Dan from the Do it for Dan campaign.

There is no cure for SMA and Livie has its most severe type. Her muscles used for activities such as crawling, walking, sitting up, moving her head, and even swallowing and breathing, are becoming progressively weaker and shrinking.

Without any treatment, Livie’s condition would continue to deteriorate and it would be unlikely that she would live past her second birthday.

Treatment options for Livie are very limited. The best hope for a better life for Livie is a once-off gene therapy called Zolgensma, which is currently only available in USA. It costs approximately US$2,100,000.

Dan Donoher has unfortunately been unable to receive the treatment needed, but the Donoher family have amazingly donated €1million from their campaign to the Better Life for Livie fundraising effort.

Weather permitting Derek will be accompanied by his son Tom (Tom's Walking Wish), Meath's number one supporter, on parts of the journey.
