Meath Community Groups receive €88,912 in grants

Meath Community Groups who have been part of the community response to the Covid-19 pandemic have been rewarded with €88,912 in grants.

Family resource centres, the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and Civil Defence are among the 18 local groups to receive funding.

In April Minister Michael Ring announced €2.5 million fund for community groups involved in Community Call response to COVID-19.

Cllr Noel French said he was delighted that these organisations  are to receive funding.

“Thank you to all the community groups who have worked so hard in response to this Covid Crisis,” he said.

The successful grant applicants were approved by the Local Community Development Committee which is administered by Meath County Council.

Cllr French says the grants are small, but they will help community groups to address the needs of communities during this crisis.

“Many groups are unable to fundraise and I know a few meals on wheels services were in a bad way,” he said.

“Priority was provided to organisations which incur costs on direct delivery of frontline services to people, such as Meals on Wheels and other similar activities. These individual grants will generally be modest in nature however it is expected that higher amounts will provided where the need is greatest.

The groups to receive funds are Trim Family Resource Centre, Irish Red Cross Trim / Boardsmill, Meals on Wheels Trim Parish, Trim Family Resource Centre, Kildalkey GAA, Sona Sasta Summerhill, Killyon Community Development Association, Masks 4 All Meath, Meath Springboard Family Support Services, Youth Work Ireland, Meath Civil Defence, Meath River Rescue, Irish Wheelchair Association, Cultur Migrant Centre, Meath Travellers Workshop, Involve Youth Project Meath, SOSAD Ireland and Flexibus Local Link Louth Meath Fingal.

Additional Covid grants for business restarts and other community grants are also in progress.
