Council Helpline is open

Meath Co Council launches dedicated support helpline

Meath Co Council has set up a dedicated free-phone number, an email address and support team to handle calls and co-ordinate responses to be delivered by various agencies and local groups to the vulnerable people in the community.
Meath Co Council has been asked by the Government to play a lead role in assisting with the cocooning requirements to be observed by older and vulnerable people in the weeks ahead and is putting structures in place to ensure that all necessary supports are made available to those in need of help.
If you are an older person or a member of a vulnerable group and have been asked to cocoon and stay indoors during the current period of this national emergency, the message is that Meath Co Council is here to support you at this time.
The council is working with a range of other state agencies, local groups and sports clubs such as An Garda Síochána, An Post, Civil Defence, GAA, Age Friendly Ireland and the Public Participation Network to provide those most vulnerable in our communities with assistance. A county Forum of these agencies and groups has been established to coordinate support, deliver targeted care and responses to issues as they arise.
Council chief executive and chair of the Forum, Jackie Maguire, says: “If people need medication collected, need food or other essentials delivered to their home, transport to a health appointment or any other needs at this time, the support is there for them. We have the volunteers, who are only too willing to assist and help out.”
The new dedicated support line 1800 808 809 is opened between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week. People also have the option to email covidsupport@meathcoco.ie.
