64 teams for 2020 NEFL season

The countdown is on to the start of the 2020 North East Football League season with 44 clubs set to field 64 teams.

The 2020 season shall kick off on weekending 22nd March with first round matches in the Kilmessan Shield (prem, div 1, & div 2 teams) and the O'Neill Shield (div 3 & div 4 teams).

Both Shield competitions will be on a knock out basis and the finals will be played by July. 

The women's league is also set to feature with eight applications already received and another four anticipated ahead of the closing date, Sunday 1st March.The women's league shall kick-off on 23rd March.

For promotion/relegation play offs the team finishing third from bottom in the higher grade shall have home advantage.
Premier Division/Division 1: 
Bottom two in premier division liable for relegation. 
Top two in Division 1 liable for promotion. 
Third from bottom in premier division play off with third highest placed team in division 1
Division 1/Division 2: 
Bottom two in division 1 liable for relegation. Top two in Division 2 liable for promotion. Third from bottom in division 1 play off with third highest placed team in division 2
Division 2/Division 3: 
Bottom two teams in division 2 liable for relegation. Top team in both div three groups liable for promotion, and qualify for a title play off at a neutral venue. 
Third from bottom in division 2 may go into a three way promotion/relegation play off with second highest placed team in both div 3 groups. 
Top team from round robin play off e.g A v B, B v C, & C V A  are liable for division 2 status.  
In the event of two teams level on points head to head results to apply in the first instance, followed by goal difference, and goals scored. 
If inseperable at that point further play offs to apply.  

Division 3/Division 4: 
Bottom team in each division three section liable for relegation. Two highest placed teams in division four liable for promotion.
