Storm Ciara on its way

Storm Ciara expected to bash Ireland this weekend

Ireland is bracing itself for a weekend of wild weather with nationwide wind and rain warnings issued by Met Eireann as Storm Ciara barrels toward us.

The wind warning notes that gusts could reach up to 110km/h in all parts of the country beginning at 9am on Saturday and ending at 11.59pm on Sunday.

There is a Status Orange Wind Warning in place for Mayo and Donegal.

The warning reads: "Saturday, Feb 8: Southerly winds will strengthen during Saturday reaching mean speeds of 50-65km/h with gusts reaching 90-110km/h.

"Sunday, Feb 9: Storm Ciara (named by the UK Met Office) will produce very strong winds over Ireland on Sunday with a risk of damaging gusts.
