Meath dig deep to overcome Garden County

Behind 2-9 to 2-13 at the interval Meath found the extra gear they needed to go on and defeat Wicklow 2-24 to 3-18 in the NHL Div 2A at Pairc Tailteann today.

Padraig O'Hanrahan capped an outstading performance for the home side with16 points, 13 frees, to ensure Meath picked up their first win of the campaign after the previous week's defeat to Offaly.

Meath won despite having Alan Douglas sent off in the 64th minute with the dismissal inspiring Nick Weir's side to greater efforts.

O'Hanrahan popped the ball over the bar from a huge range of angles and distances in an excellent display with his 10 points in the second-half going a long way to helping Meath regain their foothold in the game.

Eamon O Donnchadha and Jack Regan (penalty) found the net for Meath in the opening half with Andy O'Brien and Eoin McCormack netting for the Garden County.

McCormack scored another goal fro Wicklow after the break but with O'Hanrhan on form and Regan, James Toher, Peter Slevin Damien Healy and Anthony Healy also pointing Meath pushed on to win.

After the game Regan received the 2019 'hurler of the year' award from the Meath Supporters Club.
