Shocking...Before and After at O'Growney NS in Athboy

Community stunned after Christmas Tree stolen from the grounds of primary school

Staff and students at O’Growney National School in Athboy as well as the wider community were left shocked after the Christmas Tree planted in the school grounds was stolen over the weekend.

The tree was planted and lovingly decorated by the pupils but all that was left on Monday morning was the hole in the ground where the tree had been planted.

Posting on his Facebook page local Cllr Davild Gilroy said he was stunned as to how someone could be so mean-spirited:

"In a world where it’s hard to fathom how low people are prepared to go we have certainly a new contender for the meanest spirited act of general low living.

"Over the weekend some creature actually stole the Christmas Tree from the grounds of our wonderful O’Growney National school Athboy. This lovey tree was planted for the enjoyment of the boys and girls who go to our great school. Obviously it’s too much to bare for some people who would rather actually steal a Christmas tree from children. If anyone saw the perpetrators slithering away please let someone know. I’m stunned by this one. I really am."

If anyone knows anything about the theft of the tree they can PM our page.
