Action from Trim Celtic v Transport tonight at the MDL

Trim Celtic hit Transport for eight in FAI Junior Cup

Only four days on from hitting eight goals in the NEFL Cup semi-final, Trim Celtic hit another eight, this time in the FAI Junior Cup.

Two 8-0 victories will surely boost confidence ahead of next weekend's NEFL Cup final against complete underdogs Kentstown Rovers who had a presence on the sideline tonight.

Tonight's victory for Trim Celtic produced some excellent football against Leinster Senior League Premier Saturday side Transport who came into this tie with some solid form in their own league.

However, they weren't helped in their warm up for the game due to the late arrival of a number of players after a car breakdown a couple of miles from the venue.

The kick-off was put back by about 10 minutes to assist the Dublin men, but they weren't really settled from the start and that was costly against a team of the calibre of Trim Celtic.

IT WAS BACKS TO THE WALL STUFF FOR TRANSPORT TONIGHT AT THE MDL

Two goals to the good in 10 minutes from a Colm Carney penalty a fine Brian Faulkner strike had the Transport players on the backfoot and they were stunned on the half-hour when Conor Walsh scored the goal of the night from about 35 yards.

Faulkner and Carney added two more before the break and soon after the resumption Cillien Corcoran made it 6-0.

Full credit to Transport, they kept trying to play football, but couldn't make any impact and Trim Celtic substitute Jack O'Keeffe added two late goals to complete the scoring.

Transport also finished with nine men when Dillon Sheridan collected a completely avoidable second yellow card and then Eric Dempsey departed.

The dismissals had no bearing on the outcome.

Trim Celtic will tackle Kentstown Rovers in the final of the NEFL Cup at the MDL on Saturday 7th December and the following weekend will face Kilmanagh in the Leinster JUnior Cup while they will also have a fifth round FAI Cup tie to prepare for.
