Funeral details of Bettystown shooting victim announced

 
The funeral of Drogheda gang feud shooting victim Richie Carberry will take place on Saturday morning in Laytown it has been announced.

The 39-year-old father-of-two was gunned down after getting out of his car on the Castlemartin Drive estate in Bettystown at 11.40 pm on Monday.

It is understood the gunman had been waiting for Carberry, who is originally from Coolock, Dublin, and was classified as one of the main players in the Drogheda feud.

He was shot a number of times in the back and arm as he attempted to flee the gunman. His body was found outside his home on a footpath.  It is understood that the victim had links to organised crime and it is believed shots were fired at his house in March.

 

The murder took place at the Castlemartin Estate in Bettystown

It has now been revealed that the 29-year-old will be laid to rest following a funeral mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Laytown, followed by burial at Dardistown Cemetery. Security is expected to be tight with an increased Gardai presence in Bettystown. 

A post on RIP.ie reads: " Beloved husband of Eileen, loving father of Codie, Charlie and Callum, son of Peter and the late Mary, and brother of James and Steven. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, children, father, brothers, parents-in-law Celia and Dillo, his father’s partner Treasa, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and a large circle of friends.

"Reposing at his home on Friday, November 8th, from 5:30 pm for family and close friends. Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 9th, at 11 am at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Laytown, followed by burial at Dardistown Cemetery."
