Kildalkey v Seir Kieran

Disappointing day for Meath teams in Leinster

Saturday proved to be a disappointing day for Meath hurling teams in Leinster Club action as both Kildalkey and Clann na nGael exited the provincial race for honours.

Kildalkey's bid to secure a first win in the Leinster Club IHC was comprehensive thwarted 1-18 to 0-10 by Offaly Senior B champions Seir Kiernan at Trim on Saturday.

The Meath champions failed to win a game in Leinster when Meath champions in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and the luck of the draw consired against them again in this year's first round as Seir Kiernan proved to be a formidable foe with Offaly star Joe Bergin leading the way.

Nicky Potterton accounted for nine of Kildalkey's 10 points, with Evan Fitzgerald adding the other score for the unfortunate Meath champions who trailed by 0-5 to 0-11 at the break.

Kildalkey, who were without Sean Heavey and Paddy Conneely, battled back to close the gap to four points early in the second-half, but Seir Kieran kicked on again and added a goal to end any ambition the Meath champions held.

In the Leinster Club JHC Clann na nGael's hectic schedule caught up with them when Westmeath champions Cullion claimed an 4-9 to 1-10 victory at Pairc Tailteann.

The concession of three first-half goals left Clann na nGael playing catch up and despite Gerry O'Sullivan's goal there was no way back for the Athboy/Rathcairn men.
