Wolfe Tones survive as St Patrick's relegated

In the end St Patrick's bowed out rather tamely as Wolfe Tones secured their SFC status with a comfortable 1-18 to 2-2 victory over the Stamullen men at Donore tonight.
A brilliant goal from Donal Landy after 14 minutes and a fluky second four minutes later briefly gave St Patrick's hope that they might pull a rabbit out of the hat again, but they failed to score again from play with two second-half pointed frees from Niall Mooney, who was sent-off in the final minute, was all they could muster.
Caolan Ward and Thomas O'Reilly opened Wolfe Tones' account, but a long ball undid their defence and Landy applied a brilliant low finish to level the game in the 15th minute and four minutes later Landy's long ball deceived Trevor Browne and dropped to the net to make it 2-0 to 0-3.
Points from the  Thomas O'Reilly, Saran O Fionnagain and Caolan Ward (free) restored parity within six minutes and inn the closing minutes of the half Cian O'Neill, Niall O'Reilly, Thomas O'Reilly and Cian Ward ('45') ensured a 0-10 to 2-0 half-time lead for Wolfe Tones.
Despite stretching their lead with an O Fionnagain point, Wolfe Tones were pegged back with two frees from Mooney by the 37th minute, but St Patrick's didn't score again and when Fiarchra Ward stooped low to punch to the net it ended the game as a contest, 1-11 to 2-2.
Caolan Ward kicked three more frees, while Thomas O'Reilly (two), Fiachra Ward and O'Neill added further points to compound St Patrick's misery who now drop to the intermediate ranks.
