Gerry Keane lands Sunday feature at Galway.

Keane can laugh if he wants after big Galway winner

Gerry Keane landed in the Galway Festival limelight today when he trained the winner of the feature race on the final day of action at Ballybrit.

Keane's success maintained a Meath theme in the big races at the seven-day Festival and today it was his 20/1 outsider, the aptly-named Laughifuwant that took the laurels in the €120,000 Ahonoora handicap.

“We tried to sell him when he won his maiden, we had him as a breeze up horse and couldn’t get him into the sales," stated  Trim-based Gerry Keane whose son Colin finished down the field on the favourite Saltonstall.

However, it wasn't a bad Galway for Keane junior either as he won the Tuesday feature, the €120,000 COLM QUINN BMW Mile handicap on Saltonstall.

Today's big race winner Laughifuwant is owned by the trainer's wife Esther with Fergus and Sandra Cumiskey.

Another Meath-trained runner, Magnetic North, finished a close third for Sheila Lavery.
