Evan looking forward to JYSK opening
Danish home retailer, JYSK, is to open its navan store tomorrow morning, with Evan Walsh from Ballivor, as manager with the global homewares brand. Having spent many years working in retail at Smyth's Toys and SuperValu, Evan has honed his skills and worked his way up from sales assistant to now running his own store for JYSK.
When JYSK initially started to look for employees to hire, it challenged a recruitment firm to find the perfect talent. Right from the beginning, Evan fit the bill. “Evan has that typical Irish charm. He is a natural salesperson but can also get the details right and get the job done well,” says Head of Retail at JYSK, Roni Tuominen.
When Evan initially started researching what it was like to work at JYSK he was struck by the high praise that other employees gave. “I learned that employees always spoke highly of the company, with a lot of staff staying with the company for many years and building their careers at JYSK,” said Evan. “Once I accepted the position, I went to the UK and Denmark to train for a number of months and I could really see just how true the employee promises were. Then I got really excited for the future of JYSK Ireland and for my future with the business”.
While Evan says it’s exciting to be part of the team that kick starts the growth of JYSK in Ireland, he believes it’s also great to be able to nurture new, up and coming talents in retail. “JYSK places great importance on developing people, and I look forward to spotting future talents amongst my staff that can go on to have great careers in retail”.
Evan is really looking forward to the opening of the Navan store on Thursday, 25th July. “The most exciting part is opening the store to our customers,” he said. “After months of preparation and five weeks of hard work building the store, it will be a proud moment to see the end product. I could not have asked for much more from my team and I'm sure they will feel just as proud. Opening days are hectic, but so much fun, and I hope our customers enjoy it just as much as I will”.
