Headfort golfer edged out in final

Headfort golfer Maria O'Reilly was today edged into second place in the final of  the Irish Senior Women’s Close Championship

O'Reilly gave it her best shot, but the title went to Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) who completed three-in-a-row with a 4&3 success over the Meath woman at Naas. 

To get to the final, O'Reilly defeated Sheena McElroy (Grange) 5&4 in the semi-final after enjoying a 3&2 quarter-final victory against Deirdre Walsh (Milltown).

 Another Meath golfer, Carol Wickham from Laytown & Bettystown, exited in the last eight when faltering against  McElroy who won 3&2,

In the first round, O'Reilly defeated Mary Duane (Hermitage) 2&1 and Wickham won on the same scoreline against 
Kate Evans (Frilford Heath & RCD Ladies).
 

INTERPROVINCIALS

The teams for the Women's and Girls' Interprovincial Matches have been announced this week with Eleanor Metcalfe  (Laytown & Bettystown) and Caoimhe O’Grady (Black Bush) both selected.

The event will take place at Mount Wolseley Hotel and Golf Resort from Tuesday 9th to Thursday 11th of July. 

Each province shall play each other by match play which will consist of three foursomes’ and five singles.
