Dunshaughlin's Arch Bar for sale after four generations in O'Brien family

One of Dunshaughlin’s - and Meath’s - landmark pubs, The Arch Bar, is on the market, having been in the O’Brien family for four generations. Pubs like this this only come on to the market once in a lifetime, or in this case, the first time since the 1880s when it was first owned by Michael O’Brien, a great grand uncle of the present owner, Michael O’Brien.

Patrick O’Brien, grandfather of Michael, was a founder and first president of Dunshaughlin GAA in 1887.

The bar is sponsoring the local Athletic Club this year, as they celebrate 40 years running the 10K. The Arch Bar Golf Society has over 60 members. There are card games, running, chess games, book clubs, and drama club ‘Comedy in the Arch’ with the Dunshaughlin Players, for over 10 years. Dunshaughlin Choral Society gather on Monday nights winding down from rehearsals. The barbecues continue in the beer garden, and quizzes and fund-raising events are run throughout the year have been a huge success.

Michael O’Brien has put hard work and sweat into building up an unbelievable trade, and business is growing year on year. He changed very little in the bar over the years but always maintained the standard ensuring that good pints and drinks were always served. Michael, who took over from his late parents, Maureen and Val, says in the last few years he has to thank his great, loyal manager George McElhinney and staff.
The property is for sale, guiding €875,000 through the offices of Sherry FitzGerald Royal, Trim, where the sale is being handled by Aidan Heffernan.
