Dunshaughlin's Arch Bar for sale after four generations in O'Brien family

One of Dunshaughlin’s - and Meath’s - landmark pubs, The Arch Bar, is on the market, having been in the O’Brien family for four generations. Pubs like this this only come on to the market once in a lifetime, or in this case, the first time since the 1880s when it was first owned by Michael O’Brien, a great grand uncle of the present owner, Michael O’Brien.
The Arch Bar is a very exciting premises for someone who would like to take over a busy pub in a turn key condition, or with an ambition to create something new. There is ample space within the pub, with meeting rooms, function rooms, lounge, and a beer garden. Living accommodation including three bedrooms, sitting room, living room, kitchen, office, and bathroom, ideal for live-in owner, manager or family.
People gather at the Arch to celebrate all of life, from birthdays to weddings and funerals, music events, award ceremonies, and it was the venue for Eamonn Toal’s homecoming after Eurovision 2000.
The Arch Bar is a sporting pub celebrating events including golf, rugby, horse racing, soccer, athletics and home of the Dunshaughlin District Road Racing Club, and Meath ladies football team had a memorable night here after their All Ireland final last year. Patrick O’Brien, grandfather of Michael, was a founder and first president of Dunshaughlin GAA in 1887.

The bar is sponsoring the local Athletic Club this year, as they celebrate 40 years running the 10K. The Arch Bar Golf Society has over 60 members. There are card games, running, chess games, book clubs, and drama club ‘Comedy in the Arch’ with the Dunshaughlin Players, for over 10 years. Dunshaughlin Choral Society gather on Monday nights winding down from rehearsals. The barbecues continue in the beer garden, and quizzes and fund-raising events are run throughout the year have been a huge success.
People love the cosiness of the bar, and the uniqueness, and homely surroundings with the glowing fire in the tap room, where customers sit around playing music, and enjoy the banter and a few drinks.

Other customers love, dropping in for a pint and chat, good company, clean premises, great staff, and watching a game, and hearing the gossip of the week. Michael is a lover of music and throws on the songs for every occasion as does his daughter, Clare and son, Joseph.
Michael O’Brien has put hard work and sweat into building up an unbelievable trade, and business is growing year on year. He changed very little in the bar over the years but always maintained the standard ensuring that good pints and drinks were always served. Michael, who took over from his late parents, Maureen and Val, says in the last few years he has to thank his great, loyal manager George McElhinney and staff.
The property is for sale, guiding €875,000 through the offices of Sherry FitzGerald Royal, Trim, where the sale is being handled by Aidan Heffernan.
