Tension is in the air for over 5,000 families across Meath this week as the State examinations get underway tomorrow.
Some  5,131 Meath students will sit the Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate examinations in 19 schools around the county, joining the 121,605 candidates who will take their seats in just over 500 examination centres countrywide this week. A total of 2,381 students will sit their Leaving Certificate in Meath and of those 110 will be taking the Leaving Certificate Applied exam.
Among those doing the Leaving in Meath are 1,221 girls and 1,160 boys, while 35 girls and 75 boys are taking the Applied examination.
Some 2,750 students will sit the Junior Certificate in Meath, 1,318 of whom are girls and 1,432 boys.
Since the weekend, over 5,000 superintendents involved in supervising the written examinations have possession of the locked boxes containing the four million examination papers that are required by candidates over the 13 day examination period.

The Leaving Cert exams begin at 9.30am tomorrow (Wednesday) morning with English Paper 1, while English is also the first exam for Junior Cert and Leaving Cert Applied students. The examinations run until 25th June for Leaving Certificate subjects and 19th for Junior Certificate subjects.
All written examination papers taken by candidates in this year’s examinations will be published on the website at 11:30am for the morning papers and 4pm for the afternoon papers for the majority of subjects.
Leaving Certificate results will be issued on Tuesday 13th August 2019 and the on-line Results Service will be available from the earlier time of 10am on that day
Junior Certificate/Cycle results will be issued in late-September and the on-line Results Service will be available from 4pm on that day for Junior Certificate/Cycle candidates.

Ten Admin checks to do before entering the Exam Hall:

If you are just about to sit your Junior or Leaving Certificate exams, the following administration information is certainly worth a quick read beforehand. The more familiar you are with exam hall procedures, the more you can focus on your own game plan:

1. Be very clear on the timing of each exam.

2. Get there early on the first day of your exams to find out where to put your school bag and what centre (exam hall) you are sitting in.

3. When you sit down each day, double check you have the correct paper and label in front of you. At Leaving Cert level, you can change from one level to another on the morning of the exam but this does not come recommended, as you have spent considerable time preparing for a specific level.

4. You cannot bring any notes, school bags, phones or materials into the exam hall with you. You should just bring in your pens, instruments and some water/sweets.

5. Listen to the superintendents’ instructions carefully at the start of each exam, as there may be corrections to be made to the exam paper or other announcements.

6. Be aware that Higher, Ordinary and Foundation Papers may finish at different times.

7. You will not be allowed enter the exam hall once thirty minutes from the official start time of the exam has elapsed.

8. If you take paper one at higher level for a subject, you must take paper two at higher level also. The same obviously applies to Ordinary and Foundation levels.

9. You can obtain a copy of the exam paper from the school authorities after the exam is over. Each exam paper will be uploaded to the examinations website soon after each exam anyway.

10. Ensure you write your exam number on each script you use and be sure to hand up all writing material.
