European candidates for breakfast hustings in Navan tomorrow

The region's European election candidates will be in Navan tomorrow (Tuesday) morning for a 'Meath European Election Hustings' breakfast organised by County Meath Chamber of Commerce. Members of the business community in the county are invited  to “meet and hear” the candidates who are running in the Midlands North West consitituency for the European Parliament. The elections take place on Friday 24th May.

Candidates participatimg are  Mairead McGuinness – Fine Gael EEP, Dominic Hannigan – The Labour Party, Michael O’Dowd – Renua Ireland, Peter Casey – Independent, Brendan Smith – Fianna Fáil, Cyril Brennan – People Before Profit, and Luke Ming Flanagan - Independent GUE/NGL.

The objective of the event, which will run from 8am to 9.30am, will be to give the business community in Meath the opportunity to engage directly with the candidates and ask them questions about the issues that are most relevant to the day-to-day running of their business enterprises.
“To remain involved in the discussions on issues such as climate change, investment and taxation, Meath Chamber visits Brussels once a year to advocate on behalf of our local enterprises,” explained the chief executive of  Meath Chamber, Paula McCaul.
“On one such trip to Brussels in February of year, Chambers Ireland launched a European Elections Manifesto, calling on candidates to prioritise a Europe that is open for business. Those candidates who wish to represent Ireland in Brussels must think seriously about that. We hope that candidates going forward will strive for SME-friendly Europe, investment in regions with an emphasis on developing rural areas and a more sustainable economy and environment.”
Ms McCaul says that it's vital that the Irish electorate votes in politicians who are focused on promoting business. “The European elections that will take place in May, could be the most divisive yet in determining the future of Europe. As the voter turnout in European elections tends to be low, it is vital that citizens elect candidates who will represent Ireland’s interests, to avoid further political fragmentation and economic uncertainty,” she added.
“County Meath Chamber, along with chambers of commerce across Ireland, is calling on this business community to get engaged and support our recently launched ‘Our Time to Vote’ campaign by showing up at polling stations on the 24 May and casting your ballot. Ahead of voting day, we look forward to fruitful and engaging discussions with candidates about how we can build a better European Union that supports SMEs and supports small open economies like Ireland's.”

Candidates will present for an allocated three minute time slot followed by Q&A.   BOOKINGS: https://countymeathchamber.ie/events-amp-training/reg-meath-european-election-hustings-a-chance-to-meet-amp-engage-with-your-mep-candidates
