Kay McCabe who wrote a menu of food choices after being fed up being called at work by her teenage sons who couldn't seem to find any food in the house

Mum driven mad by teen sons texting her at work looking for food leaves them a menu!

An exasperated working mum has summed up many teenage boys in a hilarious post on social media - by leaving a menu of food in her kitchen in case they got hungry.

Kay McCabe, from Navan has a degree in working with teenagers but says many of them just can't see what's in front of them.

Despite having ample food in her kitchen cupboards, the youth worker wrote the note in desperation after endless texts from her sons saying there was nothing in the house to eat.

The simple social media post states: "When you've two teens home sick and one not in work till two and busy day lined up at work!!! #notinthemood #motherofteens #shoppingdaytomorrow"

The list states 'Do not ring me saying there is no food in the house' and cites options including 1. baked potato (in) freezer,  beans on toast, pasta bake (sauce in drawer), pizza in freezer, chicken in fridge, curry in freezer, pot noodles, cereal and more cereal.

"I'm at work and get these texts from my kids saying there's nothing to eat.  It drives me mad. OK, I had to do the shopping so the shelves weren't packed but there still was loads to eat.

"The lads are 17, 14 and nearly 13 and they're not a bit lazy.  One works three jobs but they are all just typical teenagers that can't see the nose in front of their face

"When I come out of their bedrooms, it's like emerging from IKEA.  I've three spoons, two forks and endless cups and glasses. They just don't think and give the eye roll when pulled up on anything.

"Sometimes it's easier to do things myself. They literally take things at word. I asked one to bring the shower gel to the bathroom and he left it at the door on the floor."

Kay works with youths all the time and says they are just traits of normal teenagers.

"They live in the moment and have no filtration system so you never know what you're gonna get when those mouths open," she laughed.

"I brought some on an exchange in recent years and a few wanted to sit by the windows in the aeroplane for some fresh air! Another was watching a live football match but rang home to get the results because we were in a different time zone."

"Every generation gives out about teenagers. They tell them not to answer back and in the next breath, tell them to speak out confidently.  Kids are enjoyable and frustrating at the same time and that's the beauty of adolescent years.

"Back in 400BC philosopher Socrates is even attributed to saying that youths disrespect elders and terrorise their teachers, so it's not new!"
