Wa'el and his Soul Rebels are back!
“What do you get when you mix a hard-drivin’ funky rhythm section, one smokin’ hot horn section and three talented and energetic female singers?”ã€€After a break of four years, Wael Shabo is getting his 10-piece soul band, Brother Shabo and the Soul Rebels, drawn from Drogheda and Navan, are back together for a performance this weekend in Drogheda.
The local answer to The Commitments will be performing in the Crescent Music Concert Hall on Saturday 20th April.
Influenced by Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Al Green and Aretha Franklin to name a few, Brother Shabo and the Soul Rebels is a group that takes an incredible journey back to ‘60/’70s Motown with their unique mix of organic soul and hard-hitting gritty funk.ã€€
The Rebels are Wa’el Shabo - lead vocals/acoustic guitar; Mark Lynch - electric guitar; Chris Kelly - drums; Dorian Bordalo - bass/conga; Killian O’Shea - bass/conga; Eimear Gillen - saxophone; Efa Crowley - trumpet; Jim Clarke - trombone; Caithriona Mongey - vocals/keyboards; Caroline Reel - vocals.
Known for their energetic live performances, this band is known for putting their own twist in the standards and introduce a few modern surprises. A true show band, Brother Shabo and the Soul Rebels don’t just perform, they entertain the crowd with a groove-driven, soul-drenched ride through some of the most iconic soul and funk classics of all time.
