Ashbourne CS savour final victory in goal fest

The goals flowed freely as Ashbourne Community School defeated Skerries CS 6-7 to 4-8 in the Leinster Post Primay Schools' SFC B final at Abbotstown this evening.

Darragh O'Sullivan hit two goals for the winners with Jamie Browne, Killian Hogan, Dawson Devoy and Jack O'Connor also finding the net for the Meath school who led 4-3 to 1-5 at the interval.

Apart from a very brief spell in the opening half Ashbourne led all the way putting together some pretty effective passages of play and repeatedly breaking through Skerries' defensive battlements.

Devoy's goal came from the penalty spot after O'Sullivan had been hauled down on his way through in the second-half. O'Connor's goal was memorable as it capped a super display from the talented player and arrived at the end of a mazy run. However, Ashbourne had heroes all over the pitch with O'Connor, O'Sullivan and Hogan among those to impress.

At times Skerries played some enterprising football themselves and they found the net through David Boyd, Adam Farnan, Robert Delaney and Paul Wilde but there was simply no stopping the Ashbourne team who passed the test put in front of them with flying colours in the very breezy conditions.
