Trim singer lands leading role in star studded musical

Trim singer Megan Pottinger has landed the lead role in Golden Globe nominee Brian Byrne's new musical, Angel of Broadway. The 20-year-old singer beat of stiff competition with 362 applications and 51 performers auditioned to land the coveted role. Megan will join the cast of the musical alongside Adele King, Fra Fee and Lucia Evans when it launches in the National Concert Hall on June 12th for a two-night run.

The talented performer says she is still trying to process the news,

"I'm over the moon. I was in shock when I found out. I'm so grateful and so thankful that they believed in me and saw something in me to give me this huge opportunity. It's a step on the ladder to where I want to go in life."

Megan has her mother to thank for spotting the ad searching for the role of leading lady.

Megan is excited to take on the role

"My mam saw the ad for the audition on Facebook and told me about it. I emailed my application and got the date for an audition."

"I was auditioned by Brian Byrne and Kasey Jones who wrote the musical along with Kelly Phelan, the casting director. I had to sing one of the songs from the musical and they let me perform it in different ways and use my own accent. They even changed the key a few times. It wasn't like any audition I had been to before. They were trying to get the best out of me and helping me do the best that I could which was brilliant."

Megan plays the role of Emily, the love interest of one of the male characters but the path of true love doesn't run smoothly.

"The theme of the musical is about following dreams and betrayal between two brothers and how it affects their future. It's all original music written by Brian Byrne and Kasey Jones. It's a star-studded cast with really talented people so I'm very lucky to be working with them all. We've had one read through and the rehearsals start in May."

Megan has been involved with the Trim Musical Society from a young age and most recently played the leading role in the highly successful production of Urinetown.

" It's like a family. Everyone that I have worked with over the past few years has just helped me add to my repertoire and the directors that I've worked with have really helped me come out of myself and develop my acting skills. I have a fantastic vocal coach called Helen McHugh who has helped my voice reach its full potential."

"It's going to be a  phenomenal show, everyone is so incredibly talented. I can't wait for June."
